The Education Manager’s role will be to lead on and develop our education programme with schools, colleges, universities and communities regionally and nationally.
The Education Manager will be the principal contact for building relationships with new and existing partners, developing new educational projects and securing funding, booking workshops, project management and evaluation. In addition, their work will support our performance programme and the Education Manager will work closely with our Artistic Director and Projects Manager.
The individual must have at least two years experience of managing educational projects including for young people, and be a good communicator with excellent organisation and time-management skills and a thorough knowledge of the education sector.
Knowledge of and interest in dance and/or the South Asian arts sector is desirable.
This is a 3 year post with a yearly renewable contract, part-time, 2 days per week. You must be able to work flexible hours, and occasional weekends and evenings. This stimulating professional development opportunity will take place at the ACE dance and music studio, the Link Dance Space, Birmingham, from 7th– 11th May and will follow on from a week’s residency with South African choreographer Vincent Mantsoe in March. Both these high-profile residencies are designed to build towards the Company’s forthcoming touring production ‘Mana’, which will be a collaboration between ACE dance and music’s Directors Gail and Ian Parmel, with celebrated international artists. ‘Mana’ will explore the spiritual force which resides in all living beings and inanimate objects, the stuff of which magic is formed and souls are made. This week with José Agudo will be a useful networking opportunity and chance to express your interest in working with the Company on this upcoming project.
José Agudo performs and tours internationally with Charleroi/Danses, Ballet de Marseille, T.R.A.S.H., SJDC, Ted Stoffer and Didy Veldman amongst others. Since 2000 he has been creating his own internationally award winning work and teaching for companies, school and festivals worldwide. In 2011 he created his last solo TIME/DROPPER. He describes his style as energetic release and a searching of the physical being.
The five day residency is priced at £100.00 per dancer, with only limited places available. Dancers should have a minimum of 3 years professional experience and must be able to attend the full five days. ACE dance and music are holding an Easter Showcase featuring a selection of performances from across ACE dance. The event on Saturday 31 March at The Drum will also see the premiere performance of a work-in-progress collaboration between BBC Performing Arts Fund Fellows, Ioana Waite and Luke Sheppard.
These two rising local talents have been working together on an original piece, choreographed by Luke and danced by Iona, titled ‘Bottle of ?’. The piece asks the question: how much can you put in your bottle until everything comes pouring out? It explores the journey one takes in ‘letting go’ of the past instead of allowing it to affect the present.
ACE dance and music are looking for dancers to take part in professional residencies building up to its next production, Mana. To celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay visiting Stoke on 30th May, B arts are creating a spectacular welcome procession as part of Dancing for the Games’ World of Dance project. 100 Moves will involve over 900 children and young people, 90 specially designed flags, a kinetic carnival sculpture, supported by a carnival band and dancers.

100 Moves choreographer Clare Reynolds says; “People don’t need to have dance experience but we’d like you to have a reasonable level of fitness and a willingness to have a go. It’s a great way to get some exercise and have some fun as well as taking part in a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Mehmet Sander is known for his high impact, collision choreography. Over a series of workshops he has trained local participants in his astonishing style of dance which plays with physics and the forces applied to the body. This includes the ideas of impact, rebound, velocity and ricochet. The group of participants have learned his techniques of falling and interacting with objects without injuring themselves.
The workshops will culminate in Impact, a group performance they have devised and will be performed at AE Harris at 9pm on Friday 30 March. Tickets are £10/£7. More information can be found on the Fierce website.

We are looking to recruit a dance and music/songwriter for a mini project taking place from the 2nd April concluding on the 9th of June in Birmingham Lozells area working with 12>15 young people with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties and moderate disabilities. Ages 8-16. You will be required to work for 10 > 14 hours over the said period. You may be required to work 2 evening form 4.30 -6-30 and two day sessions for 3 hours times TBC
sampad South Asian arts will be creating a new youth company to work with Delhi-based Sadhya Dance Company, to develop a new piece to be performed in the grand surroundings of Birmingham’s Town Hall on Saturday 19 May 2012. They are looking for young dancers to take part in the event which offers a unique opportunity to participate and perform on an international platform. Auditions are 12-3pm on Sunday 15 april at mac.

You’ll also have the chance to enter Breathe The Beat, an online competition where you can upload your own dance inspired by award-winning Hip Hop artist Salah, and local crews will have the opportunity to take part in the Breaking Free Street, Hip Hop, and Break dance competition.
