International Dance Festival Birmingham 2012 launches

Birmingham’s world-class programme of dance International Dance Festival Birmingham officially launched it’s 2012 festival today, which will be hitting the city from 23 April to 19 May next year.

The launch event, hosted by festival producers DanceXchange and Birmingham Hippodrome, gave the first details about the forthcoming programme of events and outdoor spectaculars that have become a trademark of the festival. On top of this, we were treated to a performances including a segment of HOME, which will be contributed to by 1000 individuals by the time the festival closes.

Performance highlights include Artifact by William Forsythe from the Royal Ballet of Flanders, Un peu de tendresse bordel de merde! by Canadian choreographer Dave St-Pierre, a new commission by Birmingham Royal Ballet for US choreographer Jessica Lang, TURF, a dance, break and parkour commission by Australian artist Shaun Parker, an outdoor dance spectacular based on 1987 film Wings of DesireDanza Contemporanea de Cuba, as well as Breakin’ Convention produced by Sadler’s Wells and hosted and curated by UK hip hop theatre artist Jonzi D.
