Birmingham Royal Ballet’s David Bintley held off stiff competition from Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity and fellow ballet Limen by Wayne McGregor to win the dance category at the final South Bank Show Awards for E=mc2.
Speaking at the awards, Bintley had this to say on the achievement:
I am delighted to win The South Bank Show dance award for E=mc² in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 20th anniversary year. This award celebrates the company’s creative collaborations, the talent of the dancers and highlights my commitment to producing new work that will take Birmingham Royal Ballet forward into another exciting year and decade.
The award was presented by Royal Ballet principal Tamara Rojo at the glittering ceremony at The Dorchester in London, which also honoured long-standing host of The South Bank Show, Melvyn Bragg.
