Bounce! A new performance featuring some of the hottest new young talent in the region will be hitting the stage for one night only on Tuesday 10 November at 7.30pm at Solihull Arts Complex.
We got Alice Wise to tell us more about the show in a guest blogpost:

“My name is Alice Wise and I am 15 from Solihull. I am currently on placement through Youth Dance England’s Stride Programme, at Dancescape. I am working with Dancescape on the upcoming sub regional showcase Bounce!09 which will involve youth dance companies from Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire. I am helping send out posters and flyers, doing press releases to advertise the show and am doing programme notes.
Dancescape’s Bounce!09, a showcase of young dance talent from Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire. It will be happening on Tuesday 10th November at 7:30pm at the Solihull Arts Complex. Eight youth groups are taking part varying from ages 12-21 and will be performing their pieces. It will be an evening not to miss, packed full of amazing performances from all the companies.
Diamond Dance Company is from Coventry. The company is made up of 13 female dancers aged 14-16. The director of the company is Michelle Keegan. They have put together a six-minute performance and it is a fusion of tap, ballet and street dance. The dance shows the use of the body as an instrument through the use of tap shoes. The piece is very upbeat and full of energy.
2Fold Dance Company is an all girl company of 14 dancers from Solihull Sixth Form College led by Suzanne Tromans. This is the first dance company to be formed at the college. The dance will be called ‘Linger’ and will be using a piece of music as its stimulus creating a dance that builds in pace and dynamics.
Toxic Toes Street Dance are from Warwickshire, whose group leader is Kath Kimber-McTiffen. There are currently 15 participants who meet weekly for one and a half hours. The piece being performed is fun, light hearted and visually exciting using upbeat music, that will reflect the interests and aspirations of the young people involved.
Youth Dance Coventry has been successfully running for five years co-ordinated by Alexis Haines. It currently has 22 members, male and female aged between 12 and 19. The company is contemporary based and allows the members to be creative. The piece they are working on is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock films and the idea of shadows and trying to escape.
Escape Dance Company is a new youth dance company with dancers from Solihull and Warwickshire. It has eight dancers from the ages 15 to 18 and a mix of boys and girls. The piece that will be performed is called ‘Abandoned Love’ and is a tribute to Janine Yousif’s (the choreographer) grandparents. The dance will involve very different styles of contemporary, mixed with physical theatre.
Beingfrank Youth is a group of five young men who have been working together for the last four years from Coventry and have been set up by David Mckenna. The dance is called ‘Déjà vu’ and it explores the relationship between the human body and the urban environment through tough political times. The piece was put together over four days in the summer and has been rehearsed since.
Highly Sprung Youth Dance Theatre is a performance group of people ages 14-21 from Coventry directed by Sarah Worth and Mark Worth. There are currently 25 mixed gender members of the group. The new piece they will be performing is ‘KontaKt’, which explores the themes of communication in the 21st Century. The performers will try to navigate their way through modern day technologies.
Rugby Youth Dance is a new dance company made up of 17 young people from the Rugby area. The group is run by Alexis Haines and they are an eclectic and energetic group of dancers. The piece they are currently working on is inspired by the graffiti artist Bansky.
