U.Dance Professional Development training day

Birmingham is swiftly becoming the hub of all things dance and youth dance.

We’ve just seen news up on DanceXchange website about an exciting new training day for dance artists and teachers in the West Midlands.

On Friday 13 November, at Chase Arts Studio in Coventry from 10-4pm, the training day will focus on choreography. It’s £15 per person, but the schedule looks a key fixture for dance artist and teachers’ diaries. It will look at source material, working in a variety of settings with young people, and diffrent styles of leading groups.

The day is aimed at those working with young people from 12-years up, and is run by U.Dance (Youth Dance England’s programme to create more dance opportunities for young people) with Dancescape (the organisation helping to raise the profile of dance in the sub-region).

You need to send an email or phone on 0121 704 6309 to register.

Also, in case you didn’t know already Birmingham will be used for the flagship performance of work from young people across the UK. On Sunday 4 July, 2010, U.Dance 2010 will showcase outstanding performances from young people aged 11-19 from across the UK. The performance will be held at Birmingham Hippodrome.

U.Dance  is a national programme run by Youth Dance England, designed to give young people the opportunity to take part in a dance performance.

In addition to this performance, shortlisted groups will also be performing in their own regions – and a list of the venues is here. If you wish to enter a group into the performance – you need to fill in an application form which can be downloaded here. Deadlines for applications is Monday 30 November.
