People often ask me this question which often makes me think why also, as i have been dancing for more years than i care to mention.
Being brought up in a traditional italian family, we used to have lots of large family gatherings that would involve a lot of eating and drinking followed by some dancing during the eating and drinking. Yes, thats right, during! I remember going to one of my cousins wedding in Italy and during the meal we would have a couple of courses, then dance for a while, then the next few courses followed by more dancing and so on. Get the picture?
The dancing that we done, was a form of ballroom and was more for having a good chat while dancing.
With programs like Strictly Come dancing on TV, its not surprising that ballroom dancing is making another comeback.
For me and many people, we dance for mainly two reasons:
- Excercise
- Socialising
I’ve lost count how many times people have told me they dance for the exercise.
“much more fun than going to the gym” and i totally agree! And with so many forms of dance for us to learn, we can choose the style that best suits us for the amount of exercise we want to do.
As well as excercise, one of the top reasons for dancing is the socialising. Its a great way of meeting new people and keeping in touch with old friends. Whatever kind of dancing i have tried, there is always a lot of friendly people there willing to help me get started and introduce to new people to dance with.
Of course, once you get really good at dancing you then may want to go onto competition dancing.
So if you ever needed any reason to start dancing or start back again, what are you waiting for? Great for excercise and great for socialising.
See you on the dance floor!
