Carl Davis’s score for Cyrano

by Nicky Getgood on August 15, 2009

Carl Davis’s score for David Bintley’s Cyrano from Rob Lindsay on Vimeo.

In this short film from Birmingham Royal Ballet, music composer Carl Davis talks about the influences for his score for David Bintley’s ballet, Cyrano:

It’s about people who are in love and people who are frustrated in love…that gives you some heart.

Awwww.  It includes some lovely clips of dancers being all swashbuckling and in love in pretty period costumes and, in the case of Robert Parker (who is Cyrano), a huge rubber conk.

Cyrano premieres at the Birmingham Hippodrome on 30th September.

There’s another interview with Carl Davis on the Birmingham Royal Ballet website here: http://www.brb.org.uk/Carl-Davis-2007.html – just text this time rather than video but he goes into greater detail about composing the score.
